Walnut, Iowa

Iowa's Antique City

Walnut is a small town in northeast Pottawattamie County in southwest Iowa.  It is located on Interstate 80, 46 miles from the Missouri River and Nebraska Border, and 77 miles from West Des Moines, Iowa.

 

With a population of ~800, Walnut is best known for its many antique shops, and for the past 10 years it has also become a regional center for wind turbine electrical generation, with 102 turbines surrounding the city. 

The town and surrounding area are part of the school district of AHSTW-Avoca.

 

Walnut celebrated it's 150th anniversary in August 2021.
